Baccarat; a deceptively simple card game which is enjoyed by millions around the world. You can play against thirteen other players if you wish, or you can just play against the banker (the computer).
Regardless of how you wish to play you’ll want to know what the baccarat odds are.
There are really only three ways to bet in the game;
- Bet on the player to win,
- Bet on the banker to win,
- Bet on a draw
Here’s how these bets relate to your chances of winning;
- The player will win 44.62% of the time
- The banker will lose 45.85% of the time
- Draw – a rare occurrence, happening only 9.53% of the time
There are quite a few different variations of the game but the odds don’t really change between the different codes. With baccarat there are no tricky rules to learn, no complicated strategies to learn, and the odds are really high.
If you are a bit of a novice and you want to bet on a card game then baccarat could well be the game for you.
Baccarat Probability Chart
The baccarat probability chart sounds a bit daunting but it just relates to what your chances are of realistically winning your bet. It can be played with just a single deck or it can be played with up to eight decks in total, but remarkably this doesn’t drastically change the odds very much.
The probability chart gives you lots of information in relation to;
- The probability of the banker winning
- The probability of the player winning
- The probability of a draw
- The amount of possible combinations available
- The house edge on each of these options
Depending on the code of baccarat that you are playing, the baccarat probability chart may be much more complicated or it may actually be more simplified.
Whether you are playing Punto Banco, Mini or another form, the function of the probability chart is to give you a breakdown of what your chances of winning are and help you to make your mind up on how to place your bet.
Baccarat Odds Calculator
The baccarat odds calculator is a device to help you make up your mind about which way to bet. It can be played with anything from one single deck up to eight decks, so the more decks there are in use the harder it can be to keep track of your odds.
This type of calculator simply asks you to input how many decks are in use for the game you want to bet on and it works out the odds of all the hands that could be drawn.
So, a single deck has 52 cards. The following calculator example uses six decks to illustrate the chances of producing the various hands;
|Number of cards||96||24||24||24||24||24||24||24||24||24|
This clearly shows that the most likely hand to be dealt will be a zero, with 96 possible chances of being dealt either a ten or face card combination.
The chances of getting a hand numbering 1-9 is significantly less at 24 each. Using an odds calculator in this way should help you to narrow down your choices on what you want to bet on significantly
Baccarat Best Odds
To get the most out of a game and get the best odds, you need to understand the basics of the game. Both the banker and the player are dealt two cards and the object of the game is to bet on who you think will be dealt a hand totalling closest to nine. The card values are as follows;
- Cards from 2 to 9 are worth face value
- Cards with a ten and Face Cards have zero points value
- Aces are worth 1 point
The score of your hand is the sum of all the cards. If the cards total double digits, you discard the number on the left and the number to the right is the total of your hand. For example, if you are dealt a 5 and a 7 the total is 12. You get rid of the 1 and your hand total is 2.
Betting on either the banker or the player to win will earn odds of 1:1, but betting on a draw will earn you odds of either 8:1 or even 9:1.
To improve your odds of winning, try to find a combination of a low house edge and a game consisting of less than six decks. This will improve your chances of winning significantly, but it may be hard to come by too.
Mini Baccarat Odds
Understanding the mini baccarat odds are just as important as their full sized counterparts’ odds if you don’t want to just throw your money away.
Mini-baccarat retains the card values of the full-sized version but it is generally played on a smaller table and the players do not get to touch the cards.
The odds are just the same as the more traditional game. It is a game of pure chance and there is not much that you can do in terms of strategy to influence the outcome of a game. If you would like to learn a bit more about strategies, please click here.
The banker has a modest winning advantage over the player, and if you bet on the banker to win then you have to pay a 5% surcharge on your winnings.
So, if you are happy to pay the commission for a surer bet then the mini-baccarat odds will tip in your favour.

Midi Baccarat Odds
As the name suggests, midi-baccarat is a game set somewhere between traditional and mini baccarat. Cards are dealt upwards rather than face down to speed up the game and a midi-baccarat game usually always contains six decks.
Uniquely, this means that the midi baccarat odds remain unaffected. In fact they are very similar indeed, but many people prefer midi-baccarat because of the increased tempo and exclusive nature of the game.
