Carlisle Racecourse can be found in Carlisle, Cumbria, England. It hosts three races of particular interest; the ApolloBet Mares’ Chase in November, the Eternal Stakes in June, and finally the Carlisle Bell, which is one of the oldest horse races in existence.

History

The Carlisle Races history can be traced back to 1904 on the current site, but racing in Carlisle can in fact be traced back to the 16th century. Carlisle has the distinction of being the first British racecourse to install a Tote betting system in 1929.

It was developed extensively in the 1960’s to make it suitable to hold night meetings, and benefitted from a huge new grandstand in 2002.
