Galway Racecourse

Ballybrit Racecourse is a hugely popular Irish horse racing stadium which famously plays host to the Galway Races, so named due to the region it is based in.

The stadium is also often referred to locally as the Galway Racecourse – just to avoid any confusion!

It’s based a few kilometres to the north of Galway city itself, so it is not based in the direct centre.  However, it is the local horse racing haunt of many people from the city and beyond.

History

Ballybrit has been a part of the Irish horse racing scene since as early as the 19th century!  It celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2019, making it one of the oldest stadiums of its kind for miles around.

It also famously played host to Pope John Paul II in the late 1970s, where a mass was held – a truly unique occasion!  Learn more about the history of the stadium by taking a look at its Wikipedia page here.

Betting at a racecourse is all part of the fun.  Grab your slips, fill them out and get them verified.  Once this is over and done with, head down to the stands and cheer your horses and jockeys on.

It makes sense to make bets while you are at the stadium, however, many people choose to bet beforehand to get access to wider odds and more lucrative markets.

Runners and Riders

Do make sure you check out the runners and riders of the Galway races before you get started.

It makes sense to have a good idea of who is doing what – and at what odds – so that you can make an informed decision later on in time.  What’s more, if you end up betting too early, you could find that you lose out to a non-runner.  This can be very frustrating!

Ballybrit Racecourse will keep you updated on runners and riders as much as possible leading up to the start of a race or an event.

Therefore, you can be assured that making a last minute bet at the ground won’t be too much of a squeeze for you.

However, you may wish to bet completely online, where a sportsbook should keep you fully updated on what to expect from the runners list at any given moment.

By doing so through the main stadium website, you may even be able to claim a free deal to knock down the price of booking ahead!  You never know quite what you might find while looking around.

Betting Tips at Galway Racecourse

It’s always tempting to look for betting tips!  They may not always work guaranteed, however, they can give betters a lot of confidence.

In many cases, the best tipsters are able to pull things off and establish themselves as a leading name in racing prediction.  However, you’re going to need to be careful about where you go for your hints and tips!

Boomtown’s team of betting experts are always here to offer you advice and tips on horse racing.  Whether you are a seasoned punter, or even if you are just getting started, a tips service will help you navigate the sometimes confusing world of racing markets.

If you’re heading to the next season of the Galway Races and want to make sure you have something of an inside edge, why not take on a tip or two?

It’s always a good idea to lead with your gut instinct, however, don’t be afraid to take on some advice as and where you assume it to be necessary.

Other Things to Remember

Do bear in mind that many racing events will require you to dress to a specific code.  The Galway Races are fairly prestigious, which means that it’s unlikely you will be welcomed into the stadium in a t-shirt and ripped jeans!

Always check the dress code before you book.

What’s more, do take care when betting on live racing – gamble responsibly by setting yourself limits during the day, and making a plan with family and friends.

Betting on racing should be fun, however, it can get addictive – so do make sure to stop early if you feel you are no longer enjoying the experience.
