History of the Coral Brand

In 1918, when the First World War was finally over with, England welcomes a Polish family into its borders, to create a better life and brighter future. One of the family members, Joe Coral, had a huge passion for mathematics, with a determination to learn and absorb as many sums as possible.

With this, he decided to leave school at the young age of 14 (common in the 20th century, you would get hit with all sorts of fines these days) to work his way through employment. Coral was hired as a pay clerk for a lighting shop, dealing with calculations each day and during his time inside this role, he met a handful of bookmakers that recognised true talent and passion for his love for numbers.

Joe often collected bets on behalf of the bookmakers before realising he could set up a life for himself doing the same thing. After plenty of hard work, Coral was experienced enough to hire out his local hall in Stoke Newington and run his business using these premises, over a 12-month period, Coral was unofficially the title of Joe’s betting business with roughly 70 employees working to collect bets from punters around London.

Unfortunately, betting wasn’t legal in the UK but no evidence was found to fine Joe for his crimes. Officers would seek revenge by charging him fines for small offences such as failing to register his marriage. When the changes of law did come around in the 1960’s, Joe Coral and his business partner Tom Bradbury-Pratt, were eager to take advantage of these new terms.

In 1961 they managed to open their very first Coral betting shop, being one of the first licensed stores on the high street. As business boomed, Joe and Tom continued to open up shops all over London with the goals of earning a good name and reputation.

What separates Coral from any other betting shop is that they became aware of a gap in the market, as others were focusing on just sports, Coral wanted to aim even higher. They soon became a limited company in 1963 and from this were able to advertise and sell their business in locations such as casinos, hotels and bingo halls.

Joe Coral worked incredibly hard on his business until his last day, sadly passing in 1966. Just one year later, his well established and very successful business was brought by a competitor, Ladbrokes, with the intentions to join forces and create something magical.

However, the deal was declined by UK Monopolies and Merges Commission, leaving the company in the hands-on Morgan Grenfell Private Equity.

Online Gaming with Coral

To maintain a highly successful business, the founders have had to evolve and adapt as quickly as their customers do, ensuring that their wants and needs are fulfilled.

Coral was one of the first bookmakers to become involved with online gambling when the internet launched, creating its official website for worldwide customers to share a realistic betting experience. The website allows promotion codes to be applied when placing bets, as well as plenty of welcome offers that attract new customers.

Mobile App Services

On iPhone or Android, the Coral app was made to allow customers to place bets anywhere at any time, founding an easier and fuss-free lifestyle for those who are busy (but loyal) betters.

On the App Store, Coral has a total rating of 4*, with reviews from real players saying it’s “one of the best betting apps on the market”. The promotions shown on the website are available on the app too.
